Cirque Dreams

The best part about being a part of this magazine is getting to see all the cool stuff our fitness community is doing. This month I had a chance to meet Summer Vyne and check out her facility Bittersweet Studios. They offer a variety of untraditional fitness classes like pole fitness, aerial silks, and lyra. The kind of things you would see at Cirque du Soleil. I’m always amazed at those shows by the amount of strength and flexibility the performers have.

So, of course I had to give it a whirl!

The classes are taught by skill level; So if you’re a beginner, girls won’t be flipping down from the ceiling while you’re hanging for your life. I think I caught on pretty quickly though, I managed to hang upside down and even perform a flip. Now by no means did I look as graceful as any Cirque performer, but I definitely saw the possibilities if I took the time to practice. Summer said the majority of her clients are women but they do offer co-ed classes as well. I’ve seen men on the silks before but pole fitness? I was skeptical until she showed me a few youtube videos of male pole fitness athletes. Those guys were no joke!

Anyways, this place was really cool! The studio is very well put together. They offer private sessions or parties if you and some friends want to get together and try it out. This is also a great way to switch it up if you’re getting bored with your current fitness routine. As for me, I’ve always wanted to be in a Cirque du Soleil act so I’m going to have to start practicing!
