Kids Fitness activities to keep them busy this summer!

With school out, summer gives ample opportunity to introduce our kids to new activities. Here are a few out-of-the-box ideas that might get your half pipes interested in fitness.

CrossFit Kids is a fun fitness program for children, pre-teens and teens between the ages of 8 and 17. A scalable program for any age or experience level, Crossfit Kids teaches proper form and technique in basic movements and exercises to teach everyone coordination, strength and overall conditioning.

While there are over 39 CrossFit boxes on the First Coast, not every box offers a CrossFit Kids or kids conditioning class. Here are a few that do:

Easy Peasy encourages kids to exercise and stay active by holding fitness events throughout the year including the Daddy Daughter TuTu 2k and the Arlington Toyota Kids Fitness Zombie Chase. Easy Peasy Jax strives to make fitness available to kids of all financial backgrounds by providing scholarships as well as donating to local children’s health/fitness charities (Police Athletic League, YMCA, Marathon High and Shannon Miller Foundation).

Easy Peasy Jax recently launched the Team Easy Peasy Kids Club encouraging kids 5-15 years old to run 25 miles. For an optional donation of $5 $10 or $15 donation, your child receives a variety of benefits including a 50% discount on children’s running shoes at Jacksonville Running Company with trade in and more!

 

 

 

Surf Campskids surf jacksonville

One of the best parts of summer on the First Coast is the close proximity to the beach! And what better way is there to enjoy the beach than riding a wave in one of the local surf camps. Kids ages 6 and up can learn a variety of skills from ocean safety and awareness to surfing etiquette and techniques.

There are a few local surf camps to choose from.

University of North Florida Running Camp

If you have a young athlete that wants to improve their speed, quickness, sprint form, endurance and overall fitness, the University of North Florida Track & Field Coaching Staff are hosting a four-day Running Camp open to athletes of all sports, from grade school to high school June 29 through July 2. Athletes will be divided into training groups by area of interest: Sprint Technique, Sprint Endurance, Middle Distance Running, and Long Distance Running/Cross Country.
